Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治傷寒陰毒, 四肢逆冷ㆍ心胸煩躁. 川烏(炮)ㆍ桔梗ㆍ白朮ㆍ附子(炮)ㆍ細辛各五錢, 乾薑(炮) 二錢半. 右爲末, 每二錢, 水煎服. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats the yin toxin of cold damage, with the four limbs reversed and cold and agitation in the heart and chest. Blast-fried aconite kusnezoffii, platycodon, atractylodes, blast-fried aconite and asarum, 5 don each; blast-fried dried ginger, 2 don 5 fun. Powder; 2 don each time, decocted in water. — Dangye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Both aconites at five don each with asarum beside them, which makes this the hottest of the yin toxin powders — and platycodon is the one drug that does not belong to that scheme. It is there for the agitation in the chest: the tradition read that as phlegm blocking above while cold held below, and platycodon lifts and opens where everything else in the formula drives downward and inward.
