Treats blood depression. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Samul-tang with the cooked rehmannia and white peony exchanged for peach kernel and red peony, which converts a blood supplement into a blood mover, with a full qi-moving layer behind it. The two warm medicinals at 3 pun — cinnamon bark and blast-fried dry ginger — are what keep the formula from cooling static blood into place, and they are the classical answer to the section's description of blood depression, which includes a red stool and a sunken, hollow, rough pulse. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
