Translation

Treats stomach heat with vomiting. Pueraria, 3 don; pinellia sliced, boiled together with ginger juice and fermented millet water and dried over heat, 2 don; licorice, 1 don. Cut up, make one packet, and decoct together with three slices of ginger, two jujubes and a pellet-sized wad of bamboo shavings. ○ Better still for the vomiting of drink. ○ To know whether there is heat in the stomach: where the palms and soles are all hot, that is stomach heat. — Dangye Simbeop 丹心 · Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs and two garnishes, and the one to notice is the pueraria at 3 don. Pueraria is the drug the tradition uses for the after-effects of drink, and the Immun's addition — 治酒嘔尤妙, better still for the vomiting of drink — says what the formula was actually reached for. The last clause is a physical sign worth keeping: heat in the palms and soles as the way to decide that a vomiting is a hot one. It is the same sign 審病 2.5 reads from the hand, and it costs nothing to check. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state; the elaborate preparation given here — boiled with ginger juice and fermented millet water, then dried — is itself the detoxifying step, and the drug must not be used unprocessed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
