Translation

The yellow hen treats long-standing red and white dysentery: take one, dress it as for food, make a soup of it and eat it regularly. ○ For a slippery bowel with diarrhoea: take one, dress it as for food, roast it over the fire brushing it with salt and vinegar, roast it again until dry, and eat it on an empty stomach. It is called Guye-san. — Boncho 本草 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A roast chicken with a name, and the name calls it a powder — 散 — though nothing is ground. What the method actually produces is a dry, salted, vinegar-glazed bird, and for a patient wasted by months of dysentery that is the right treatment: protein, salt and fluid, taken on an empty stomach so that it is eaten. 腸滑, a slippery bowel, is the Stool chapter's term for a gut that will not hold, and the salt and vinegar are there to bind it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
