Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治風濕臂痛. 羌活ㆍ獨活ㆍ川芎ㆍ當歸ㆍ甘草 各一錢, 白朮 二錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑 五片, 煎服. 《得效》

Translation

Treats wind-damp arm pain. Notopterygium, aralia, cnidium, Korean angelica, and licorice 1 don each; white atractylodes 2 don. Cut the above, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger, decoct and take. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Su)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Notopterygium and aralia paired is the standard upper-and-lower wind-damp couplet; here both are given at full dose because the arm is the target and notopterygium leads to the upper limb. White atractylodes at double dose does the actual damp work while cnidium and Korean angelica keep the Blood moving so the channels are not merely dried. Distinguish from Sohwalrak-dan 小活絡丹, a different and far more aggressive formula despite the similar name. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
