茵蔯蒿, 主黃疸, 通身發黃, 小便赤. 以水濃煎服, 生食亦良. 《本草》 ○治酒疸. 取一兩, 淸酒煎服, 名酒煮茵蔯湯. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Virgate wormwood governs jaundice with the whole body turning yellow and the urine red: decoct it strongly in water and take; eating it raw is also good (Boncho 本草). ○ For wine jaundice: take 1 nyang, decoct it in clear wine and take. It is called Jujeoinjin-tang. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

One herb in wine, and the wine is the argument: the Jaundice chapter holds that a drug carried in the same vehicle as the cause will reach where the cause has gone. 酒疸, wine jaundice, is alcoholic liver disease, and the chapter is right about the cause and wrong about the remedy — the treatment is stopping the drink, and wine as a vehicle is the last thing such a patient needs. Virgate wormwood is the reference herb for jaundice in Korean and Chinese practice and the head of nearly every formula in that chapter. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
