Translation

Treats vacuity taxation with the Kidney damaged, or drying-hot medicines taken in error so that the Kidney water is scorched dry, with thirst, dim vision, deafness and lumbar pain. Asparagus root, ophiopogon, dried raw rehmannia, prepared rehmannia, achyranthes, white peony, lycium bark, dendrobium, scrophularia, magnetite and aquilaria, in equal parts. Powder the above and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 70 pills with salted broth. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Heoro)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The name is the argument. Almost every Kidney formula in this chapter warms, and this one is built to answer the damage those formulas do when they are given to the wrong patient — 誤服燥熱, drying-hot medicines taken in error, with the Kidney water scorched dry behind them. Eleven herbs in flat equal parts, and nine of them moisten: the two asparagus-family roots, the two rehmannias, dendrobium and scrophularia to restore fluid, lycium bark to take heat out of the bone. The last two are the interesting ones. Magnetite is heavy and is here to settle a yang that has been driven upward, which is what the deafness and dim vision are read as; aquilaria, aromatic and descending, is the single moving agent in an otherwise entirely filling formula, put in so that eleven rich herbs do not sit in the stomach. That pairing — one weight, one aromatic — is the chapter's standard insurance on a heavy yin prescription. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
