治同上. 取皮爲末, 酒調傅項骨上. 乾則易濕者. 《得效》
Translation
Treats the same as above. Take the bark, powder it, mix with wine and apply over the nape bone. When it dries, replace it with a moist one. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Gyeonghang)
Clinical commentary 臨床
A single-medicinal external application, and the gentler half of the pair with Cheonju-won — it puts nothing into a weak child's stomach. Acanthopanax bark is the classical agent for strengthening sinew and bone, and the instruction to renew the poultice as soon as it dries is the operative detail: the wine carries the medicine while it is wet, and a dried plaster does nothing. Whether transcutaneous delivery accomplishes what is claimed is doubtful, but as a warming, held-in-place dressing over a weak neck it is at least harmless, which cannot be said of every pediatric remedy in the classical literature. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
