Translation

Governs especially cold accumulation, seminal emission and white turbidity, and in women red and white discharge, irregular menses and long failure to conceive. White sandalwood and antelope horn 1 nyang each; spikenard grass, aloeswood, angelica dahurica, birthwort, momordica seed, nardostachys, cimicifuga and dragon's blood 5 don each; clove bark 7 don; musk 9 pun. Powder them and divide into three parts; for each use, quilt one part with prepared mugwort floss and cotton into a belly-band of white silk. One wearing it for the first time unties it every third day, resumes on the fifth, and after a month wears it constantly. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Je)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Not a medicine but a garment — aromatics quilted with mugwort floss into a silk band worn over the belly, taken off every third day at first and then worn constantly. It is the gentlest thing in the chapter and the only one meant to be lived in. **Antelope horn and musk are from CITES-listed species; momordica seed is toxic.** **馬兜鈴 is the fruit of 쥐방울덩굴, Aristolochia, and carries aristolochic acid.** The route here is not the usual one and the warning should not be the usual one either: this is worn, not swallowed — a powder quilted into a silk band and held against the belly, 常服 after the first month. The nephropathy and the urothelial cancer are documented for oral exposure; what a dry powder in a sealed band does across intact skin over weeks has not been studied, so the honest answer is that the risk is probably small and is not known. Anyone unwilling to carry an unquantified Group 1 carcinogen against the skin for a month should leave it out, and nothing in the formula's purpose depends on it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
