Clear Ringing Pill

Yoryang-hwan

한글 요량환 · Pinyin Liao Liang Wan

嘹喨丸

The Wikisource transcription gives the formula's name as 干崝丸, which is corrupt, and this entry formerly carried 香椿芽丸 after its chief ingredient. The Kyujanggak transcription reads 嘹喨丸 — 嘹喨 of a voice that is clear and carrying — and that is the name printed here.

Treats long-standing loss of voice with hoarseness. Chinese toon sprout juice 4 nyang if unavailable, 4 nyang of the powdered plain dried sprout may be used instead; human milk, white honey and pear juice 4 nyang each. Mix them evenly, steam them cooked in a double boiler, and take at any hour with plain hot water. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Seongeum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four liquids steamed together — toon sprout, milk, honey and pear — and nothing else. The chapter's gentlest formula, for a voice that has been gone long enough that nothing sharp will bring it back. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
