Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治失心癲狂. 紫河車洗淨煮爛, 同熟牛肚切碎, 和一處, 隨便食之, 最妙. 《入門》

Translation

Treats loss of mind with withdrawal-mania. Wash placenta clean and boil it until soft; cut up boiled ox tripe small, mix the two together, and let the patient eat it as he pleases — most excellent. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**This is not to be prepared.** Human placenta is not a food and cannot be used safely; it is tissue of known donor origin at best and an infection risk at worst. Set that aside and the thinking is sound and unusual: the only formula in the chapter that is a dish rather than a medicine, given 隨便食之, as the patient pleases, for a mania the Immun reads as depletion. Feeding a patient who has stopped eating is the part worth keeping. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
