Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

大烏龜一箇, 餓一二日, 將飯與肉ㆍ骨ㆍ果子ㆍ烟火之食飼之. 三五月後, 夜間, 以漆盝盛之, 用竹片置盝口, 令通氣, 外放燈一盞, 盝內熱, 龜自撒尿, 急則只麻油烟熏鼻, 亦卽尿. 先用五倍子末炆醋如膠. 若龜尿得一小鍾, 入五倍醋半鍾, 入磁器炆一滾, 角罐收貯. 以新筆略蘸搽鬚. 多用面黑. 《入門》

Translation

One large black turtle, starved a day or two, then fed rice with meat, bone, fruit and cooked food. After three to five months, at night, put it in a lacquered box with a bamboo strip laid across the opening to let air through, and set a lamp outside. When the inside of the box grows warm the turtle passes urine of itself; if haste is needed, smoke its nose with sesame-oil smoke and it will urinate at once. First simmer powdered Chinese gall in vinegar to a glue. When one small cupful of turtle urine has been obtained, add half a cup of the gall vinegar, simmer once to a boil in a porcelain vessel, and store in a horn jar.
