Translation

Treats damage from food and drink of every kind, and accumulations and glomus lumps; taken over time they disperse of themselves. White atractylodes 5 nyang; tangerine peel, pinellia, poria, medicated leaven and hawthorn flesh 3 nyang each; forsythia, cyperus (wine-fried), magnolia bark and radish seed (stir-fried) 2 nyang each; bitter orange fruit, barley sprout, coptis (wine-fried) and scutellaria (wine-fried) 1 nyang each. Powder them, make pills with ginger juice paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take fifty to seventy down with clear tea. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The classical Bohwa-hwan with white atractylodes at five nyang put in front of it, which changes what the formula is for. The Danxi version is a straightforward food-reducing prescription; this one is aimed at accumulations and lumps that have been there long enough to need dissolving rather than dispersing, and says so — taken over time they disperse of themselves. That phrase is the section's alternative to attacking, and it is offered here in the same breath as the warning at 1.7.9 that a lump in the abdomen is never an ordinary sign. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
