Translation

Generally treats standing phlegm and retained rheum giving rise to various diseases. Pinellia (processed) 3 don, red poria 2 don. Cut up, make one packet, add 7 slices of ginger and decoct. The Jikji's Sobanha Bokryeong-tang is the same. — Seonmyeongnon 宣明 (Donguibogam · Damum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two medicinals and seven slices of ginger — the irreducible core of every phlegm formula in the chapter. Ijin-tang is this with tangerine peel and licorice added; Dodam-tang is Ijin-tang with arisaema and bitter orange. Reading the general-use section in order is a lesson in how the tradition builds outward from a two-herb base. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
