Translation

Treats damp damaging the Kidney channel, with lumbar pain cold and heavy. White atractylodes and blast-fried aconite, 2 don each; dry-fried eucommia 1 don. Cut the above, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Jesaeng 濟生 (Donguibogam · Yo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three herbs for the damp kind, and the pairing at the head is the classical answer to cold damp anywhere in the body: atractylodes dries, aconite warms. Eucommia is what makes it a lumbar formula rather than a general one. Note the indication's two words — **cold and heavy** — which are precisely the qualities the damp section uses to identify this kind, as against the sharpness of stasis or the shifting of wind. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
