Translation

Treats a stirring qi wrongly sweated, with vexation of the heart, aching bones, dizziness of vision and vomiting of food. Tangerine peel, 3 don; green bamboo shavings, 2 don; ginseng and licorice, 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, add five slices of ginger and three jujubes, and decoct in water. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The Shanghanlun's tangerine-peel-and-bamboo-shavings decoction under another name, and it is among the most dependable antiemetics the tradition has. Tangerine peel moves the stomach qi downward, bamboo shavings cool what the sweating left behind, and ginseng with licorice, ginger and jujube restore what the vomiting is taking. The four signs in the indication — vexation, aching bones, swimming vision, vomiting — are a fair portrait of a dehydrated patient after a fever, and the formula is still prescribed for post-operative and post-febrile nausea. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
