Cut up, make one packet, add seven bamboo leaves and a hundred grains of non-glutinous rice, decoct in water, and take with two spoonfuls of ginger juice stirred in. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Han, upper)

Clinical commentary 臨床

White Tiger Decoction rebuilt for a patient who has already been ill for a fortnight: gypsum stays, anemarrhena goes, and in its place come ginseng and ophiopogon. That substitution is the formula's reason for existing — residual heat in an emptied patient needs replacing as much as clearing, and anemarrhena would clear without replacing. Bamboo leaf carries the heat out through the urine. The pinellia and ginger juice look out of place in a cooling formula and are not: a convalescent stomach often refuses what it is given, and these two keep the cup down. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
