Translation

Mandarin peel resolves wine toxin and the thirst of drink, and is wanted for sobering up easily. Mandarin peel baked and powdered, with a little salt added, 1 don infused in boiling water and taken. It is called Dokseong-tang. — Boncho 本草 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

獨醒, sobering up alone, and the name is a joke at the drinker's expense — the one person at the table still clear-headed. Baked citrus peel with a pinch of salt in hot water is a warm salty drink, and for someone dehydrated after drinking that is close to the right thing: fluid and sodium. It shares its romanization with the Women chapter's 獨聖湯, which is a different formula entirely and is registered as dokseong-tang-buin. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
