Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治血蠱及瘀血停積, 經水不通. 桃奴ㆍ猳鼠糞ㆍ玄胡索ㆍ肉桂ㆍ五靈脂ㆍ香附子(各炒過)ㆍ縮砂ㆍ桃仁各等分. 右爲末, 每三錢, 以溫酒調下. 《入門》

Translation

Treats blood gu and static blood standing as accumulation, with the menstrual water not passing. Withered peach, rat droppings, corydalis, cinnamon bark, flying squirrel faeces, cyperus (all stir-fried through), amomum and peach kernel in equal parts. Powder them and take 3 don at a time stirred into warm wine. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Withered peach is the fruit that fails to ripen and stays hanging on the branch through winter, and it is used for exactly what its name suggests — something that should have come away and did not. That the formula also contains ordinary peach kernel makes the pairing deliberate rather than incidental. Rat droppings and flying squirrel faeces alongside it place this among the older stratum of the materia medica, where animal excreta are used for stasis.
