Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治鬼胎, 惑於妖魅, 狀似癥瘕, 及一切血病. 斑猫ㆍ玄胡索各等分. 右爲末, 醋糊和丸, 酒下三丸, 胎墮爲效. 《入門》

Translation

Treats ghost foetus, bewitchment by goblins and spectres, a condition resembling a concretion, and blood disease of every kind. Mylabris and corydalis in equal parts. Powder them, make pills with vinegar paste, and take three down with wine; the falling of the foetus is the sign of effect. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two medicinals and a stated endpoint that leaves no ambiguity about what the formula is for. **Mylabris (blister beetle) contains cantharidin and is among the most acutely lethal substances in the classical materia medica; ingestion causes gastrointestinal and renal injury and death at small doses. This formula is an abortifacient and must never be prepared or taken. It is recorded here solely for textual completeness.** The indication is worth noting for what it shows rather than for use: bewitchment by goblins is named alongside a concretion as though they were alternative descriptions of one presentation. The Phlegm-Rheum chapter at 6.11 takes the opposite line and argues that such presentations are phlegm and that treating them as possession kills the patient.
