Translation

Treats panting and cough of every kind. Anemarrhena dry-fried in wine, fritillaria dry-fried, tangerine peel with the white removed, mulberry root bark honey-fried, coltsfoot, inula, asparagus, ophiopogon, ginseng, lepidium seed dry-fried, platycodon, apricot kernel dry-fried with bran, pinellia processed with ginger, ass-hide glue roasted to beads, and licorice, in equal parts. Grind to a powder and make honey pills the size of a bullet; dissolve one in smoked-plum decoction or ginger decoction and give it down. — Jungjo 中朝 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Fifteen drugs in equal parts and a formula built to cover every case rather than to fit one: two fritillary-and-anemarrhena pairs for the heat, coltsfoot and inula for the cough, asparagus and ophiopogon for the dryness, pinellia and apricot kernel for the phlegm, lepidium for the water, ginseng and glue for what the illness has taken. 通治, treating all cases alike, is the chapter's own word for this class, and the honey pill dissolved in smoked-plum or ginger decoction is a lozenge in all but name. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
