Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治冷痰, 嘔噦惡心. 靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ良薑ㆍ乾薑 各等分. 右爲末, 醋糊和丸梧子大, 米飮下五十丸. 《局方》

Translation

Treats cold phlegm with retching and nausea. Green tangerine peel, tangerine peel, lesser galangal and dry ginger in equal parts. Powder them, make pills with vinegar paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take fifty down with rice broth. — Hwaje Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Damum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four warm acrid medicinals and nothing else — no pinellia, no arisaema. That is the point. The chapter defines cold phlegm as clear and congealed with no vexing heat, and the treatment is simply to restore warmth so the fluid moves on its own rather than to attack the phlegm directly. Vinegar paste as the binder adds a gathering, astringent note that keeps the four dispersing herbs from scattering too freely. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
