Clinical commentary 臨床

Stone concretion is the counterpart to intestinal mushroom and the pairing is the point: both grow to the size of a pregnancy, but the mushroom lies outside the intestine and the menses still come, while the stone forms inside the womb and the menses stop. The source at 1.11 says the first is a disease of the qi with the blood not yet involved, and the second arises from cold contracted first and blood then dammed — so this formula is entirely blood-moving where the other is qi-breaking. Fluorite vinegar-quenched at the head is the softening mineral; amber, myrrh and sappan are the stasis-dispersing set. Taking the powder in a strong sappan decoction rather than water carries the whole preparation into the blood aspect. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
