Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治腸覃病, 惡血, 成癥瘕, 作痛. 三稜ㆍ蓬朮各一兩(幷酒浸, 以巴豆三十粒去皮, 同炒黃, 去巴豆)ㆍ乾漆(炒烟盡)ㆍ川烏(炮) 各五錢, 䃃砂四錢(另硏), 茴香(鹽炒)ㆍ靑皮(去白)ㆍ雄黃(另硏) 各三錢, 穿山甲(炮) 二錢, 麝香五分, 輕粉(另硏) 一錢. 右爲末, 薑汁麪糊和丸梧子大. 溫酒, 或薑湯下二三十丸. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats intestinal mushroom disease with malign blood forming concretions and causing pain. Sparganium and curcuma 1 nyang each, both wine-steeped and dry-fried yellow together with 30 peeled croton seeds, the croton then discarded; dried lacquer (dry-fried until the smoke ceases) and aconite (blast-fried) 5 don each; sal ammoniac 4 don, ground separately; fennel (salt-fried), green tangerine peel (white pith removed) and realgar (ground separately) 3 don each; pangolin scale (blast-fried) 2 don; musk 5 pun; calomel (ground separately) 1 don. Powder them, make pills with ginger juice and wheat paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take twenty or thirty down with warm wine or ginger decoction. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Intestinal mushroom is defined at 1.11 as cold qi lodging between the large intestine and the stomach and binding into a concretion, growing over time from the size of a hen's egg to resembling a pregnancy, firm under the hand and movable to the push, with the menses still coming — and the source adds that this is a disease of the qi in which the blood is not yet diseased. That last clause is the differential against stone concretion, which follows it. **This formula contains realgar (arsenic sulfide), calomel (mercurous chloride), sal ammoniac and aconite, and must not be prepared or taken. It also contains pangolin scale and musk, both CITES Appendix I and prohibited in trade.
