Translation

Treats blood gu. Sparganium 4 nyang, vinegar-boiled, sliced with a bamboo knife and sun-dried; chuanxiong 2 nyang, vinegar-boiled; rhubarb 5 don, vinegar-roasted. Powder them, make pills with vinegar paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty at a time down with vinegar decoction; the effect is seen in a month. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three medicinals and vinegar at every stage — boiling, roasting, binding, and the vehicle. Sour enters the liver and gathers what is scattered, and the mass this formula addresses is a liver blood mass. A bamboo knife rather than a metal one for slicing is the standard instruction for medicinals whose action metal is thought to spoil. A month is given as the term, which is the only formula in this section to state one, and it marks this as a grinding treatment rather than an attacking one. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
