Clinical commentary 臨床

Bupleurum and tsaoko cardamom together at the head is an unusual pair — one cool and coursing, one warm and aromatic — and it answers a lump that sits below the heart with both fullness and heat. Safflower is the single blood medicinal, present in a small dose because a lump at this site is more often qi and food than blood. The name is worth keeping literal: to open the heart, in the sense of the region rather than the affections. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
