Clinical commentary 臨床

Lycium root bark and elsholtzia are what set this apart from the other lump formulas here. Lycium root bark clears heat from the yin aspect and treats the steaming fever of depletion, not the surface fever of contraction; elsholtzia releases the exterior and disperses summerheat damp. Together they suggest a lump accompanied by a fever that is neither clearly interior nor clearly exterior, which is what 寒熱 without further qualification usually indicates. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
