Clinical commentary 臨床

Five drugs, and the pairing in the name is the formula: cyperus moves qi, perilla leaf releases the surface, and the two at equal full dose make a remedy for the cold that comes with a tight, stagnant, out-of-sorts feeling rather than a frank fever. That is why the indication is so broad — wind, damp, cold, seasonal qi, epidemic — and why it suits the patient under strain who catches everything going round. Atractylodes lancea for the damp and tangerine peel for the middle. Gentle enough to give without a confident diagnosis. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
