Clinical commentary 臨床

Sour jujube seed with anemarrhena, poria, chuanxiong and licorice is the Jin Gui formula for depletion vexation, and the two additions here are ophiopogon for the fluids a fever has spent and a small measure of dried ginger. The ginger at 2 fun 5 ri is the piece worth noticing — a fortieth of the formula, warm, put into an otherwise cooling prescription so that a convalescent stomach will accept it. Chuanxiong in a sleep formula looks wrong and is not: the classics hold that blood that will not circulate keeps the spirit from settling. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
