Powder them, make pills with steamed cake soaked in ginger juice, the size of a firmiana seed, and take fifty to seventy after meals and at bedtime, down with tea or wine as preferred. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Damum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The test for whether the processing is done is stated as an observation rather than a time: boil until no white specks remain in the arisaema. White specks are unconverted starchy tissue, and their disappearance marks the point at which the raw drug's irritancy has been cooked out. Gleditsia pod does its work in the pot and is then thrown away, which is worth noting because it appears in the ingredient list without ever entering the finished pill. The second half of the formula is a food-dispersing set, and pueraria is the classical medicinal for resolving alcohol. Taking the pills down with wine, offered here as an option, is the sort of instruction that dates a text. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
