Clinical commentary 臨床

Minor Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction merged at roughly half strength each, which is what the pattern asks for: an exterior still unresolved and a shaoyang already involved, neither severe enough to warrant a full formula of its own. 動氣 — stirred qi with a throbbing that the patient can feel — is the Bogam's term for the pulsation that appears when neither level is settled, and the Bogam treats it as a specific contraindication to purging. Five slices of ginger rather than three, which is the Shanghanlun's dose and steadies the stirring. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
